Hello, my name is

ABOUT ME

In my current work, I am an Instructional Designer with in-depth Accessibility experience. Passionate about empathy-based, learner-centered, intersectional accessibility, I work to apply these values and principles in new and engaging ways. With effective, creative solutions for users beyond our standard Instructional Design practices, my motivation is to make content that immerses and personally connects the learner with the knowledge they need. This includes applying game theory as a tool for learning. Like any designer, I value building up trust and rapport with stakeholders and SME’s, but I balance this with also being an advocate for the end-user during the design process when needed.

Even before my professional Instructional design work, I had a history of undergrad work and studies in student affairs, game design, pedagogy, and online education. This background aids me in understanding user needs and experiences in courses and trainings, particularly for adult learners and non-traditional students. Beyond the standard ID models, such as ADDIE, Bloom’s, Kemp, and UDL, I can apply concepts like intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, immersion, gamification, and intuitive design from basic Game Design principles and game psychology. Every person has knowledge, interests, and skills beyond their chosen career or degree. I bring all of mine to my work every day, to best serve the learner.

Loyal and committed, I see the workplace as a place of long-term personal growth and investment, and value fostering close professional relationships with the team, fellow industry professionals, and the broader local community. If given the chance to serve and aid in a good cause, I will take it!

PHILOSOPHY

Instructional Design and Game Design at their core are both about making an experience that the user will carry with them long after it ends.
Whether it is a story, important career knowledge, an evocative experience, or a special skillset, both of these fields in my mind are about giving and sharing. This ability to craft a high-quality experience that people can take something of value from is what makes this area of work my passion.
